Cookie Policy

The short version

We use only what this shop needs to work. There is no advertising, no analytics and no third-party tracking on this site. Nothing you do here is shared with an advertising network, and we do not build a profile of you.

What a cookie is, here

A cookie is a small piece of text your browser keeps for a site and sends back on the next request. This site also uses two related browser stores — local storage and session storage — which work the same way from your point of view, except that they are never sent to us automatically. They are listed below with the cookies, because the difference matters less to you than what they are for.

Everything this site stores

All of it is strictly necessary: the shop cannot sign you in, hold your basket or take a payment without it.

  • liquorcentral_sessionCookie

Keeps you signed in and keeps your basket attached to you between pages. Without it every page would treat you as a new visitor.

Kept: Until you sign out, or two hours of inactivity.

  • XSRF-TOKENCookie

Proves that a request came from a page on this site. It is what stops another site submitting a form, or an order, in your name.

    Kept: The browsing session.

  • lc.guest_order.<order number>Local storage

If you checked out as a guest, this is the token that lets you open your own order again without an account. It is the same token as the link we email you.

Kept: Until you clear your browser data.

  • payment-return.<order number>Session storage

Remembers that you have just come back from the payment page, so the order screen can tell you what happened rather than going quiet.

Kept: Until you close the tab.

  • lc.cookie-noticeLocal storage

Remembers that you have read the notice, so it is not shown on every page.

Kept: Until you clear your browser data.

Why we do not ask you to accept them

Rules on cookies — the ePrivacy Directive in Europe and the Nigeria Data Protection Act here — require consent for cookies that are not necessary, such as advertising and analytics. Cookies that a service genuinely cannot work without need to be disclosed, which is what this page does, rather than consented to.

We think a banner offering to refuse the cookie that holds your basket would be offering a choice that does not exist. If we ever add anything optional, you will be asked properly first, and nothing will be set until you answer.

Your control

Every browser can show, block and delete cookies and storage for a site, usually under Settings → Privacy. Blocking them here is your right, but signing in, the basket and the checkout will stop working, because each depends on the items above.

Payments

When you pay, you are taken to the payment provider's own page to enter your card details. Those details never reach this site. The provider sets its own cookies on its own domain under its own policy, and we cannot read them.
